Diageo puts brewery plan on hold
DIAGEO is to put its €650 million investment plans in new facilities on hold after a year-long review. The company hopes to build a super brewery on a 73-acre site in Leixlip, Co Kildare, on land partly owned by the Guinness family. The brewery was to open in 2013. The company had intended to upgrade its brewery at St James’s Gate but with reduced capacity. Its breweries in Kilkenny and Dundalk, will remain open for the foreseeable future. Staff cuts with 68 jobs going at St James’s Gate are expected to proceed.
